Educational Goal： The goal of the English Department is to enable students to meet the requirements for social, economic, scientific and technological aspects of their personality development:Specifically are the following:
- To develop a balanced acquisition of knowledge, abilities and qualities;
- To build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills about English language
- To become qualified teachers in English teaching for primary schools and
middle schools; and
- To be interdisciplinary and application-oriented talents of English capable of
doing translation, management, language services and research in the fields of
foreign affairs, international trade, tourism, and culture.
Students majoring in English are required to learn the basics of English language, Literature, Education, Developmental and Educational Psychology, English Curriculum and Teaching Methodology, and the five English communication skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, including translating. They must learn to put their English knowledge into practice and conduct independent English teaching skillfully.
Graduates are required to have the following knowledge, abilities and qualities.
First and foremost, they are required to lay a solid foundation of English language and master the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating in English.
Second, they are required to grasp the basics of English language and general knowledge about politics, economy, history and culture in the English-speaking countries.
Third, they must obtaina system of theories about education and teaching, and educational psychology. In practice, they are able to teach English independently and flexibly in schools and apply their knowledge and skills to work.
Fourth, they should have profound and professional knowledge about British and American Literature, Linguistics and Translation Studies and International Trade, and be able to use it to deal with translation and international trade successfully.
Fifth, they are able to use modern information technology in the search or query for academic literature, data and information and they are capable of conducting research.
Sixth and most importantly, they need to follow the motto of the university and build the personality of“sincerity and perseverance”, to observe professional work ethics of teachers, and to keep a right attitude towards life and the world, and most importantly, they need tobe physically and psychologically fit.
