The Japanese Department offers Japanese Language, Major in Arts and Sciences.
Educational Goal： The goal of the Japanese Department is to enable students to meet the requirements for social, economic, scientific and technological aspects of their personality development. They are specifically the following:
- To have a balanced development in the acquisition of knowledge, abilities and
- To build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills about Japanese language
and culture; and
- To become interdisciplinary and application-oriented talents of a Japanese
language who are capable of doing translation, management, marketing,
language servicesand research in the fields of foreign affairs, trade, tourism,
education, culture, and the fields involving science and technology
Students majoring in Japanese are required to learn the basics of Japanese Language, Literature, Social Culture, International Trade, Tourism and the five language skills required of a Japanese course: listening, speaking, reading, writing, translating, and mastering the methodology of conducting research. The Department also aims to cultivate students’ ability in dealing with information, communication and team work.
Graduates are required to have the following knowledge, ability and quality:
First, students are required to lay a solid foundation of Japanese language and master the basic skills of Japanese listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating.
Second, they are required to learn the basics of Japanese language and the Japanese society and culture.
Third, they need to know how to use computers in Japanese and obtain the related knowledge about business and tourism.
Fourth, they should know well how to use English — their second foreign language, into practice.
Fifth, they are able to use various methods to search for literature and data and use modern information technology to have access to the information needed.
Sixth, they need to follow the motto of the university and build the personality of“sincerity and perseverance” and to keep a right attitude towards life and the world. They also need to be healthy physically and psychologically.
Major Disciplines：Japanese Language and Literature
Major Courses: Basic Japanese, Advanced Japanese, Japanese Reading, Spoken Japanese, Japanese Listening, Japanese and Chinese Translation, Japanese Writing, Thesis Writing in Japanese, Japanese Grammar, Introduction to Japan, and History of Japanese Society and Culture.
Courses for Practice: Practice (including Comparative Studies of Japanese and Chinese Culture, Acquaintanceship Practice and Graduation Internship), Social Practice (including Social Investigation and Career Practice Training), and Research and Thesis Writing (including graduation thesis and term paper)
